Abstract

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors are one of the rare soft tissue sarcomas, which have not good prognosis despite of treatments. In this paper we tend to report a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in the legs of a 44-year-old patient with neurofibromatosis type Ι. The patient underwent surgical operation and chemotherapy, but unfortunately died due to lung metastatic involvement several years later. Despite the poor prognosis of the disease, early diagnosis can reduce mortalityand morbidity

Abstract

Ectopic adrenocortical tissue is a clinical finding which has been reported in various locations, such as kidney, female genital tract and supradiaphragmatic region. It is occasionally seen in spermatic cord of pediatrics specially. The simultaneous occurrence with testicular torsion has not been reported. Here we describe a one-month old infant with ectopic adrenocortical tissue in spermatic cord in association with testicular torsion.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that is very common in childhood. In a significant percentage of patients, the disease develops in ages less than 18 years. Psoriasis in children present with a variety of manifestations. The diagnosis of the disease at early ages is difficult, because of atypical lesions. The plaque type is the most common form of the disease in children. Different treatments such as phototherapy and systemic therapies have been proposed, but using any of them leads to serious complications in children. Therefore, early diagnosis and proper management are the main part of the treatment in these cases. Here in this article we aimed to provide a general overview on the pediatric psoriasis, its epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and the treatment and discuss the latest information and data existed in this context.

Abstract Term Piedra, which means stone in Spanish is used to describe an asymptomatic fungal infection of the hair shaft. Two different varieties of piedra are generally distinguished white piedra and black piedra. In regard to the lack of any report in Iran and also with consideration to tropical weather and high humidity of northern area of Iran, the authors decided to find the prevalence of this infection among the students of guidance schools through a survey. Methods: This was a descriptive cross sectional study that was conducted among guidance school students of Sari city-Iran in 2013. Sampling was performed through the taking samples from the different clusters of students. In the beginning check list contain demographic data and several questions related to hygiene and public health situation distributed among students. Then scalp hair and axillary part of subjects were evaluated by examiners. Direct examination was done via slides that were prepared by KOH 20% to observe hyphe or any fungi components. After that, all samples were cultured in Sabouraud’s dextrose agar (Merck,Germany) containing cloramphenicol (Merck, Germany) and incubated at 27 degrees of centigrade for four weeks. The samples were seen by medical mycologist every day. Data was analyzed via descriptive tests through the SPSS 18.0. P.value ≤0.05 was determined as significant. Results: Subjects were 1273 (44.3%) male and 1600 (55.7%) female. From the all examined students only 271 (9.43%) students sampled which 224 (82.5%) were female and 47 (17.5%) were male. Out of 271 sampled students no case of piedra was identified. Beside the piedra no other dermatophite or pathologic fungi were observed by direct examinations. Conclusion: prevalence of trichomycosis nodularis in the studied area was zero. It sounds very likely that the presence of health centers in the studied areas of sari, also routine visit of the students by schools nurses and inhabitation in downtown were the reasons for lack of infection by piedra.

Abstract

Abstract Orf or Ecthyma contagiosum is a zoonotic disease that is the result of a dermatophitic parapox virus infecting goats and sheep. The virus is transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals or fomites. Here in this paper, we reported eight patients infected with orf viruses and also tried to provide a relatively complete data of this disorder by reviewing of the literatures. Worthknowing about the disease may occur at any location, so all clinicians and researchers need to have this disease in mind as a differential diagnosis in patients who has a history of working with animals.

Abstract

Introduction: There were some reports about the positive effects of some Korean red ginseng root extract ingredients on wound healing. The present study was designed to examine the effect of whole Korean red ginseng root extract ingredients on incisional wound healing and tissue tension in rats.

Methods: In this experimental study, 80 rats (Sprague Dawley, 200-250 gr) randomly divided into four groups. In day 0 a full thickness circular wound was made on the backs of these rats. They were divided into these receiver groups: Eucerin (control) and Korean red ginseng root extract (1, 10,100µg/ml) in Eucerin base were administrated daily. For tissue tension measurement 5 rats in each group were selected in days of 6, 12 and 18 after anesthesia skin incision 2 cm ×1 cm was done and tissue tensile was measured with tensiometer and data was compared by SPSS with one-way ANOVA and Tukey (P<0.05).

Findings: In this study, we had better wound healing in extract treated groups (depending on the dose) in comparison with the control group and the receiver of 100 micrograms of the extract was significantly the best.

Conclusion: Korean red ginseng root extract can be used as a medication for wound healing; probably its mechanism is increasing fibroid tissue.

Abstract

Introduction: Wound healing is a complex process that can be disrupted by different factors. Currently, there is no standard product to accelerate wound healing in incisional wounds. Acceleration of wound healing by Scrophularia striata (SS) hydroalcoholic extract was shown in previous studies. This study was designed to show the effect of SS seed aqueous extract on tissue tension and surface area of the healing wound in rats.

Methods: One hundred rats (Sprague Dawley -200±50 gr weight) were randomly assigned into 5 groups of 20 cases. Eucerin (negative control), phenytoin 1 percent cream (positive control), and SS root aqueous extract in Eucerin base (SSRE) 1 µg/ml, 10 µg/ml and 100 µg/ml. The incisional wound was inflicted on the spinal interscapular area. It was treated with substances on a daily basis. Tissue tension and the wound area was measured in all subjects.

Findings: In our study, the most tensile resistance of the healing wound was observed in group 4. Interestingly, group 4 showed the least surface area of the wound after the completion of the treatment period. Overall, there was a significant difference in wound healing process between groups that received SSRE treatment and other groups.

Conclusion: SSRE increases scar tissue endurance and improves wound healing. Early closure of the wound and increased tension endurance can help prevent future wound complications.
